laptop charging port repair – We have put together this small post to explain the difference in charging socket repairs. There are 2 distinct differences between charging port setups. First is a soldered charging socket that needs repair due to a “dry join” (a crack in the solder, preventing charging) The laptop may still charge when the socket is held in a particular way, but obviously needs to be repaired as it will continue to short the mainboard.
Below you will see a soldered charging socket, the actual laptop charging socket is soldered directly to the mainboard. if physical damage has occurred the socket needs to be de-soldered and replace, if the socket looks ok (like the one below) it may just need to be cleaned up and re-soldered, so it makes a constant connection to the mainboard.
We can also assist with your MacBook charging port repair, the architecture of the MacBook charging port is slightly different, but it suffers from the same symptoms as any other Laptop. Laptop charging port repair – Some laptop manufacturers provide a cabled solution, this is where the charging socket is attached to the mainboard via cable. This type of setup is not as strong as the above soldered solution as the plastic chassis holds the laptop charging socket in place. Once the support socket break, damage to the actual charging socket cable is likely (see pic Below)
With this repair we were able to replace the whole chassis, we also replaced the torn charging socket and cable. (as the original cable was to short to re-terminate)
